Mass Effect ; The first hour

Computer and videogames.com got a chance to play Mass Effect for an hour. This is one of the Xbox 360 hits, and an RPG made by Bioware. Bioware has a rich history of great RPGs, including Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire. If you don’t know anything about the game, here’s one thing they said.

Jack Bauer and Space Zombies; that’s what you can expect in the first hour of BioWare’s latest RPG masterpiece Mass Effect. Co-founder and co-doctor Ray Muzyka is calling it “a next-gen BioWare game on steroids”. We’re calling it “24 in space”.

If your not a fan of RPG’s you are in luck because they say that the game can play like Ghost Recon for the weapon heavy people. Overall the article makes me want the game even more, and I will definately pick it up this year.

The Best Controllers

CNET Uk did a a list of the top 5 controllers. I bet everyone was expecting the number 1 spot to go the Wii. Did it? Nope! Number 5 was the Atari 2600 joystick. A good controller, and we all think it deserved the number 5 spot. Number 4 came the SNES controller. A definate classic. I still remember where all the buttons were.. Number 3 was the Nintendo 64 controller. This is the only one I’m a little iffy about. The analog was great, but those ‘C’ buttons were pretty useless. A wierd, but surprisingly efficient controller design. Number 2? The Playstation 2 controller. I definately agree with this one, even though I am an Xbox fanboy. It is a great controller, but definately not as good as number one. Number one? The Xbox 360 controller. Can I get a ‘great job’ for the team at Microsoft?

Team Fortress 2 details revealed

If you don’t know what Team Fortress 2 is, it is the multiplayer game that comes with Half Life 2 : Orange Pack. It takes a new direction in graphics, with an amazing cell-shaded style and seems to flow almost indefinately with the style of gameplay. The game has 9 different classes. Each one plays as a completely different style. Some classes include Spy, Scout, Heavy, and Pyro. Valve is currently working on balancing issues but they seem to have nailed it down. IGN posted an article on their site where they got to playtest the game with valve and they gave their personal review on each class. Unlike most games where the Engineer and Medic are useless, they play a key role in this game.

“Valve’s goal with Half-Life 2: The Orange Box is to offer a great single-player title (Episode Two), a unique gameplay experience (Portal), and an awesome multiplayer game (Team Fortress 2). From our play date at Valve, it appears the legendary company will be able to deliver on all three aspects. While Episode Two is one sweet shooter and Portal is the next evolution in puzzle games, it’s Team Fortress 2 that proved the most impressive.

Team Fortress 2 is a fast-paced class-based online shooter. Valve’s challenge in reviving the long-dormant TF franchise was in creating a great experience no matter which of the nine classes a player chose. Along with making each class visually different, Valve managed to infuse each class with its own personality. Each requires a different type of strategy; but all nine classes are useful. And, more importantly, each is fun to play.”

Epic confirms new achievements for Gears of War.

On the official Gears of War forums, administrator Mark Rein, confirmed a new update that will be adding extra achievements to the game.

Here is a direct quote from Mark Rein himself

Folks,

The next Gears of War update is coming along nicely. We don’t have a release timeframe for it yet but I just wanted to let you know we’re making significant progress. In addition to the previously mentioned plan to improve roadie run we’re also going to have new achievements relating to Annex and the Hidden Fronts DLC. Of course no title update would be complete without more exploit squashing and the ever-popular “general housekeeping”.

First Guitar Hero III info

Activison has officially announced that Guitar Hero 3 will have wireless guitars, online multiplayer modes and original artist recordings. Multiplayer will have battlemodes, Boss battles and unlockable content. The Gibson Les Paul will be the new wireless guitar.

There will also be an online multiplayer where players can battle eachother to finally prove who can rock harder.

Activision also revealed that there will be more songs than before. Here are just a few of the new tracks.

DiRT Demo Coming To the Xbox Live Marketplace May 24th

Tomorrow you will be able to power up your Xbox 360 and download a demo of the upcoming game DiRT. The demo will be available on both the 360 and PC tomorrow. This demo will include three different types of rallying to show off Dirt’s varied new career mode.

“We think the demo is really going to wow a lot of people. It’ll have a Super Stage crossover rally with Colin as your opponent, it’s got buggy racing against 9 opponents which is absolute carnage and really shows off the car models, and then we have a hill climb with fantastic scenery and a Travis Pastrana time to beat. It’s a great little package and it’s out on May 24.”
